On a trials bike, the parts that wear and get damaged most are the ones your feet, hands and the rocks come into contact with: footpegs, brake and gear pedals, grips, the chain guide and the guards under the engine. Jitsie makes these parts specifically for each trials model and year, including Gas Gas, Beta, Montesa, TRS, Sherco, Scorpa and Vertigo. In this guide you will read what to replace first and how to choose the right part for your bike.
Which trials parts wear fastest?
Trials means riding at low speed over rocks, logs and steps. The bike goes over more often and the underside regularly hits the ground. That is why the same parts always need attention first:
- Footpegs: the teeth wear and the springs weaken, so your boots get less grip.
- Brake and gear pedal: they stick out and bend or break in a fall or against a hard rock.
- Grips and levers: grips wear out, levers bend when the bike tips over.
- Chain guide and front sprocket: wear from mud, sand and the constant load at low revs.
- Guards: engine covers, the exhaust and sprockets take knocks; a guard is cheaper to replace than the part underneath.
You will find all Jitsie parts for these categories in the Jitsie collection.
Footpegs, pedals and levers: your contact points with the bike
In trials, footpegs are the most important contact point: you are almost always standing. The catalogue includes the Jitsie Ratio footpegs in steel and as Ratio titanium footpegs 37° Race, plus the Grip and Lift aluminium footpegs. For the Gas Gas Racing/GP 23-26 there are specific versions and a separate mounting kit. Separate footpeg springs are also available, which is handy if the pegs are still fine but no longer spring back properly.
Jitsie supplies brake and gear pedals per model, often in a standard and a Race version. Examples from the range are the brake pedal for the Beta Evo 09-25, the Gas Gas Racing/GP 19-22 and 23-26, the Montesa 4RT 05-26, the TRS One 16-26 and the Vertigo 16-26. For the Scorpa SC and Sherco ST there are even short and long gear pedals. For the handlebar there are brake and clutch levers in Pro and Race versions, plus lever adjusters for position and free play.
Handlebar, grips and controls
In trials, handlebar height largely determines your riding position. With the Jitsie handlebar riser kit or the riser clamp set you can adjust that height without fitting a different handlebar. There are also bar end plugs (standard and Race) and two types of grips: the Jitsie Soft Grips and the TL Grips. Grips are a small part, but worn grips cost strength in your forearms during a long event.
Guards for engine covers, exhaust and sprockets
You do not replace guards because they wear, but because they have done their job. Jitsie makes them model-specific:
- Engine covers: plastic guards for the clutch cover, flywheel cover and water pump cover (including Beta Evo 2T, Gas Gas Racing/GP, Scorpa SC and Sherco ST), and an aluminium flywheel cover guard for the Montesa 4RT 05-26.
- Exhaust: carbon exhaust bend guards for Beta, Gas Gas, Montesa, TRS, Sherco and Vertigo, among others, plus plastic and carbon silencer guards.
- Sprockets: front sprocket guards (aluminium for the Beta Sincro 2026, plastic for the Montesa 4RT) and rear sprocket guards for Gas Gas.
- Other: guards for the linkage, the front brake disc and the front fork.
Chain guide and sprockets
A worn chain guide causes play and can let the chain come off. Jitsie has chain guides for the Beta Evo 2T and 4T 09-25, Gas Gas Pro/Racing/GP 02-18 and Racing/GP 19-25, Montesa 4RT 05-25, TRS One 16-26 and Vertigo 17-25, among others. Front sprockets are available for many models, including older ones such as the Montesa 314/315 and Gas Gas JT/TXT. If you replace the front sprocket, also check the chain and rear sprocket for wear.
Graphics and clothing: looks and comfort
Graphics protect the plastics and give your bike its own look. Jitsie has complete graphics kits in the Stealth and Retro lines, and separate stickers for the frame, swingarm, airbox, mudguards, silencer guard and rims, always per model and year range. With the Custom variants you can put your own name or number on, for example, your front number plate or helmet.
For the rider there are trials shirts and pants in the T3 (T3 Air shirt), L3 and O1 Omnia lines, also in kids' sizes and as a Custom version. Helmets are available in the HT1 (Solid, Rize, Getz, also for kids) and HT3 (Solid, FullRev) series, with separate helmet peaks and liners. For gloves there is the G3 line with a single-layer Boracan palm and the Glow, a cold-weather glove with an insulated back. View the complete range in the Jitsie collection.
How to choose in 3 steps
- Determine make, model and year. Note the exact model (for example Gas Gas Racing or GP, Sherco ST or ST-R) and the model year from your registration documents or via the frame number.
- Check the year range in the title. Jitsie titles end with the model and year range: “23-26” means model years 2023 up to and including 2026. Watch out for model changes: the Gas Gas Racing/GP 19-22 and 23-26 have different pedals, and the Beta Sincro 2026 has its own parts alongside the Evo 09-25.
- Choose the version. Where there is a standard and a Race version, or steel, aluminium and titanium, choose based on your use and budget. For universal parts such as levers and grips, check the size and fitting.
| Part | Why replace it | Choose by |
|---|---|---|
| Footpegs | Teeth wear, springs weaken | Material (steel, aluminium, titanium) and model |
| Brake and gear pedal | Bends or breaks in a fall | Model, year range, standard or Race |
| Grips and levers | Grips wear, levers bend | Soft or TL Grips; Pro or Race lever |
| Chain guide | Play, chain comes off | Model and year range |
| Guards | Damage to engine covers, exhaust, sprocket | Model and material (plastic, aluminium, carbon) |
Frequently asked questions
What should you replace first on a used trials bike?
Start with the parts you touch and that get damaged first: footpegs, brake and gear pedal, grips and the chain guide. Then check the guards under and around the engine. These parts directly determine how the bike feels and prevent more serious damage.
How do I know whether a Jitsie part fits my trials bike?
Look at the make, model and year range in the product title, for example Gas Gas Racing/GP 23-26 or Montesa 4RT 05-26. Your model year must fall within that range. Parts without a model in the title, such as levers or grips, are universal or have their own dimensions that you need to check yourself.
What is the difference between a standard and a Race pedal from Jitsie?
Jitsie supplies brake and gear pedals for many models in a standard and a Race version. Both are model-specific, so the fit depends on your bike and model year. Not sure which version suits your riding style? Send us a message with your model.
Do Sherco parts also fit Scorpa?
Some Jitsie parts do: titles such as Scorpa SC 15-22, Sherco ST 09-22 or Scorpa SCT/SC-F 23-26, Sherco ST-R/ST-F 23-26 mention both brands. Pay attention to the year range, because from 2023 onwards both brands use different parts from the older models.
Which Jitsie brake pads should I choose for trials?
There are Jitsie brake pads and Jitsie Race brake pads. According to the manufacturer, the Race pads have a metal-ceramic race compound with a copper backing plate. You choose the right version based on the FD number that matches your brake caliper.
