Which Seat Concepts seat is right for you?

Comfort, Race 2.0, Rally, Grip Pro or Commuter: how to choose the Seat Concepts seat that suits your riding style, your height and your adventure, enduro or dual-sport bike.

Which Seat Concepts seat suits you depends on two things: how you ride and how tall you are. For long rides on an adventure or dual-sport bike you will usually go for Comfort, for motocross and fast enduro riding Race 2.0 or Grip Pro, and for technical off-road riding on a big adventure bike a Rally seat. Then you choose the height (Low, Standard or Tall) and whether you want a complete seat or a Foam & Cover Kit.

Which Seat Concepts seats are available?

All Seat Concepts seats are made in the USA and use higher-quality foam than the stock seat. Most lines have a cover made of water-resistant vinyl. These are the lines you will find in the Seat Concepts collection:

  • Comfort: as narrow as stock at the front, so your legs are not spread further apart, and wider towards the rear. Your weight is spread over a larger area, so you can keep going for longer.
  • Element Comfort: the wide Comfort shape with a lighter, sportier build. For riders who want more comfort in a sporty shape on an enduro or motocross bike.
  • Race 2.0: a flat, race-oriented profile that makes it easy to move from front to back. Made for motocross and fast enduro riding. For a few Yamaha models there is also Traditional Race 2.0 with extra traction ribs, developed with professional racers.
  • Grip Pro: a one-piece cover made of wire gripper material with a rough, grippy top layer. The foam is the same width as stock.
  • Rally and Rally 2.0: slim seats with an open cockpit and plenty of freedom of movement for technical riding, including for the KTM 790/890/1090 Adventure and the Yamaha Tenere 700.
  • Commuter: wider and flatter than stock, for everyday use and long rides on the road.

Torn between Comfort and Rally on an adventure bike? Comfort is wider and built for hours in the saddle. Rally gives you more freedom to stand, shift your position and grip the tank with your knees. The Rally seat for the KTM 1090 Adventure, for example, is not lower than stock, but it is narrower between the knees, making it easier to put a foot down. That makes it intended for dedicated off-road riding and short stretches of road, not for long touring trips.

Low, Standard or Tall: which seat height should you choose?

For many seats you can choose the height. According to Seat Concepts:

  • Standard: the same height as the stock seat.
  • Low: roughly 25 mm lower. Foam is removed, so the seat may feel slightly firmer.
  • Tall: roughly 25 mm higher. More room between seat and footpegs, which tall riders often appreciate.

Only choose Low if you really need to reach the ground more easily. If you are tall and your knees feel cramped on long rides, Tall is worth considering. Not every height is available for every model; the options are listed per product.

Complete seat or Foam & Cover Kit?

Most seats in the range are complete seats: the foam and cover are already fitted to a Seat Concepts seat base. You take off your stock seat, fit the new one and ride away. There is no upholstery work involved and you keep your stock seat as a spare.

A Foam & Cover Kit consists of new foam and a cover that you fit to the base of your stock seat. You will need a staple gun for this, or you can have it done by an upholsterer with experience of motorcycle seats. Thin plastic sheeting is included to protect the foam against moisture. Comfort kits are available for models including the BMW R1200GS/GSA (2004-2013), F800GS Adventure, F650GS/G650GS, G310GS/G310R and R1100RT/R1150RT. For some models a matching kit or cover for the rear seat is also available.

Which bikes is there a Seat Concepts seat for?

  • Adventure: KTM 790/890 and 1090 Adventure, Yamaha Tenere 700, BMW R1200GS/R1250GS, F800GS Adventure, CFMOTO IBEX 450, KTM 690 Enduro R and Husqvarna 701.
  • Dual-sport: Honda CRF300L (Rally), CRF250L, XR650L, Kawasaki KLR 650, KLX 230 and KLX 250S, Suzuki DR 650 and DR-Z400, Yamaha WR250R, XT250 and TW200.
  • Enduro and motocross: Beta, GASGAS, Husqvarna, KTM, Sherco, Rieju, Honda CRF, Kawasaki KX, Yamaha WR/YZ, and on the electric side the Stark Varg and Surron Light Bee.

Each seat lists exactly which models and model years it fits. A seat for the same bike from a different generation often won't fit, because the frame and tank change. See the current overview in the Seat Concepts seats collection.

How to choose in 3 steps

  1. Look up your bike and model year. Check the product description to see whether your model and year are listed.
  2. Choose the line that suits your riding style. Long rides: Comfort or Commuter. Motocross and fast enduro: Race 2.0 or Grip Pro. Comfort on an enduro bike: Element Comfort. Technical off-road on an adventure bike: Rally or Rally 2.0.
  3. Choose height and version. Standard if you are happy with the stock height, Low or Tall if you are not. Then choose a complete seat or, where available, a Foam & Cover Kit.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Seat Concepts Comfort and Race 2.0 seats?

Comfort is just as narrow as the stock seat at the front and widens towards the rear, so your weight is spread over a larger area. Race 2.0 has a flat, race-oriented profile that makes it easy to slide from front to back. Choose Comfort for long rides and Race 2.0 for motocross and fast enduro riding.

How much lower is a Seat Concepts Low seat?

According to the manufacturer, Low is roughly 25 mm lower than stock and Tall roughly 25 mm higher; Standard keeps the stock height. For Low, foam is removed, so the seat may feel slightly firmer. Not every height is available for every model.

Do I need my stock seat base?

Not with a complete seat: the foam and cover are already fitted to a Seat Concepts seat base and you swap the whole seat. With a Foam & Cover Kit you do, because you fit it to the base of your stock seat.

Can I fit a Foam & Cover Kit myself?

Yes, the kit is designed for DIY fitting and comes with instructions. You will need a staple gun; Seat Concepts recommends stainless steel T-50 staples of no more than 6 mm. You can also have the kit fitted by an upholsterer with experience of motorcycle seats.

Which Seat Concepts seat suits an adventure bike like the Tenere 700 or KTM 790?

For long distances, Comfort is the logical choice. If you ride a lot of technical off-road, a Rally or Rally 2.0 seat gives you more freedom of movement; for the KTM 790/890, Rally 2.0 is slimmer than both the Comfort and the stock seat. Always check the model year in the product description.

Does the heated seat on my BMW R1200GS or R1250GS work with a Seat Concepts seat?

No. With the Comfort front seat for the BMW R1200GS/R1250GS (2013-2024), a factory-fitted seat heater no longer works. Keep this in mind if you use that feature.

You will find all Seat Concepts seats in the Seat Concepts collection, shipped from the Netherlands. Not sure which line or height suits you? Send us a message with the make, model and year of your bike, and tell us how you ride. We'll be happy to help you choose.
