About Exhaust Systems
Slip-on, mid-pipe or full system?
A slip-on replaces only the end silencer and is the simplest upgrade, for example on a Honda CB 1000 Hornet. A mid-pipe or link pipe connects the headers to the silencer. A full system, such as the Akrapovic Racing Line for the Yamaha MT-07, also replaces the headers from the cylinder head. Check the product information and the rules that apply to you to see whether an exhaust is suitable for use on public roads.
Materials and parts
- Titanium: light and heat resistant, used for example on Akrapovic exhausts for BMW Adventure models.
- Stainless steel: robust and durable, for example on header pipes.
- Replacement parts: heat shields, end caps and other Akrapovic parts per model, plus FMF parts for silencers such as the Factory 4.1 RCT.
Exhaust maintenance
In off-road silencers the packing burns and blows out over time. The bike gets louder and performance drops, so repack the silencer in good time. A spark arrestor screen, such as the FMF insert for four-stroke exhausts, should be cleaned regularly. Check gaskets and clamps for leaks, and replace a damaged heat shield or end cap on its own without changing the whole silencer.
Check fitment using the motorcycle selection on the site. Every product shows its part number, so you can compare it with your current part.
