About Exhaust & Accessories

Which type of exhaust do you need?

  • Slip-on silencer: replaces only the end can and is the simplest upgrade, for example from Akrapovic, Arrow or SC-Project.
  • Header or mid-pipe: the section between the cylinder and the silencer. A mid-pipe or header has more effect on power delivery than a silencer alone.
  • Full system: header, link pipe and silencer matched to each other, such as the complete systems from HGS.
  • 2-stroke pipe: the expansion chamber, such as the racing pipes from OXA and VOCA Racing, largely defines the character of a two-stroke engine.

Materials and maintenance

Exhausts come in steel, stainless steel, titanium and carbon. Titanium and carbon are light, while steel is tough and easy to repair. Off-road silencers contain packing that burns out over time, making the silencer louder and harsher. Repack in good time, for example with FMF silencer packing, and check the spark arrester screen if your bike has one. For trial bikes there are separate O-rings and rubber mounts from Jitsie.

Ordering the right part

Exhaust parts are almost always specific to model and year. Select your bike in the motorcycle selection on the site and check the article number shown on every product. For road bikes, also check whether a system is intended for road use or for closed-course use only.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a slip-on and a full exhaust system?
A slip-on replaces only the silencer and fits onto the existing header. A full system also replaces the header and link pipe, so it has more influence on weight and power delivery.
When should I repack my silencer?
When the silencer sounds noticeably louder or raspier, or packing fibres come out of the end cap, the packing has burnt out. With frequent off-road use, regular repacking keeps both the silencer and the sound level in good condition.
Are spare parts available for my Akrapovic exhaust?
Yes, there are replacement parts such as heat shields, end caps and mid-pipes for a range of models. Check the article number and the listed motorcycles to choose the right part.
How do I know whether an exhaust fits my motorcycle?
Use the motorcycle selection on the site to filter by make, model and year. Then compare the article number and product description with your current exhaust.
